Here at Tremont Dental Care, in the South End of Boston, we not only focus on dental care but we also perfect our patients’ smiles.? Botox therapy is used in our office to do just that!
What is Botox therapy?
Botox (botulinum toxin type A) is a type of neurotoxin that can have positive cosmetic effects on patients. Today it is widely used cosmetically to help reduce, eliminate, or prevent wrinkles.? In dental offices, it can also be administered to treat severe cases of TMJ disorders from severe grinding.
Is it safe?
It is safe because the amount of botulinum toxin used in cosmetic applications is very small and virtually has no adverse side effects.? As an FDA-approved treatment, Botox therapy is currently the most common cosmetic operation, with at least 4.6 million procedures in the United States a year.?Massachusettsalso has strict regulations on Botox administration and the practitioner (physicians or dentists) must be fully trained and qualified in the administration of Botox and dermal fillers.
How does it work?
Biochemically, the botulinum toxin particles prevent the release of acetylcholines that are normally needed for muscle contractions.? By doing so, the toxin interferes with nerve impulses and causes flaccid paralysis of muscles in botulism.
Is Botox therapy painful?
Most patients do not mind the slight pinch that occurs at each injection. But with plenty of topical numbing gel and injection techniques commonly used by dentists most patients find it to be a pain-free and simple procedure.
How long do the effects last?
For most people each treatment lasts somewhere between 4?8 months. We recommend that you get smaller dosages more frequently instead of larger dosages once in a while.
Our administration of Botox is a safe, non-invasive, and affordable cosmetic procedure that can be used to effectively fight wrinkles, as well as treat severe TMJ disorders.
